Glacier cave tours are back!

The autumn ice survey is done and the lower Blueheart caves reopen on 3 October. Bonus: two brand-new chambers on the long route, and they are very blue.

Passes at the Glacier Gate or Steward's Hall. Guides will politely refuse anyone without crampons. Then less politely.

Sheep after dark: please keep them inside

Farmers on the western slopes: under the Treaty of the Old Keep, sheep wandering around after sunset are… let's say “not covered”. Pens closed from dusk to dawn, please.

Relations with our neighbour remain excellent. She sends her regards and a new poem. Sightings go to 113.

The Smithing Fair returns to Harbour Quay

17–19 October: the Frostiron open their forges to everyone. Sapphire-cutting shows, a weaving market and the famous axe-throwing trophy. Free entry, ear protection recommended.

Barrier Pass closed until the thaw

Early snow plus avalanche risk equals no sleds above the White Fields this winter. Heading to Cobalt? Take the lower valley road. The Frost Brigade will keep an eye on the closed bit (and on anyone trying to sneak through).

More time to renew sapphire claims

Good news for diggers: the renewal deadline moves to 30 November. Miss it and your claim goes back to the common pool, so maybe don't.

Snowcap Lake road is open again

All the dragon damage has been patched up and sleds to Snowcap Lake run on the normal timetable. Huge thanks to the villagers and to our visitors from the south for the help.

Wolves get another year off

After this year's pack count, the wolf hunting season stays closed. The wolves have not commented, but the howling sounded happy.
